Advice Auditioning Blog

‘Tis Audition Season!

Along with the change in the season, another season starts to truly begin.. audition season. This past summer in the city was a little quiet with auditions here and there, but in the past week or two audition notices have really started to grow. Don’t let the idea of more auditions stress you out – let it empower you. Here are some tips that I find help to put me in the right frame of mind, basically ready for anything!

  1. Think of every audition as another opportunity to perform (you have a captive audience). Every audition room you walk into, you get to meet and perform for new people, embrace it! If it is someone that you have performed for before, surprise them, try something different!
  2. Take care of yourself mentally and physically. Make sure you are getting enough sleep and have activities dedicated to keeping you sane that have nothing to do with theater – give yourself a break. I love doing yoga and going for long runs.
  3. Always continue to push yourself as an artist, don’t settle. Continue to look up new repertoire for your book, learn roles that you may perform some day, take dance classes, continue to strengthen your voice by taking voice lessons, we are never a finished product, which is why this job is so exciting!
  4. Find an audition buddy. Auditions can sometimes take over your entire day – if you have a buddy with you, not only do you have someone to talk to, but you can help each other stay focused and ready to go at a moment’s notice.

That’s all for now! More to come as we keep pushing through the season – let me know what helps you!
